Aging is no longer a contraindication for elective cosmetic procedures. It was commonly thought that elective procedures in the aging population, especially over sixty five, had too much risks involved. However, we have found that the senior population is just as likely to benefit with little or no more difficulty than younger individuals who are ten to twenty years younger. Procedures such as the abbreviated face lifts and laser treatment to the neck as well as local tumescent liposuction and fractionated CO2 laser skin treatment can be appropriate and safe in seniors. I do apply more stringent criteria to be eligible for an operation when a patient reaches the age of sixty-five. This means a more extensive medical evaluation, especially of the cardiovascular system is warranted along with a much more thorough history of medication use such as possible blood thinners or cardiac medications. Pre-operative blood work always entails a chem panel and a electrocardiogram. My oldest patient has been a eighty three year old woman who underwent successful face-lifting, but who was in very good health before the surgery, she received medical clearance from her physician and had no medical issues during or after the procedure.
